InkBell

Privacy policy

Last updated 17 October 2026

This policy explains what information InkBell collects when you use our website (https://inkbell.app), dashboard (https://app.inkbell.app) and phone apps, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

1. The short version

  • We collect what we need to make your papers, keep your account and books, and run your plan.
  • Your books, papers and uploads are private to your account. We never sell your information or show it to other users.
  • Your material is processed by an AI service to read pages and write questions. It is not used to train their models.
  • PDF files are deleted once a book has been read. You can delete books, papers or your whole account.
  • We do not use advertising cookies or trackers.

2. Who we are

InkBell is run by DEVSTAX (Private) Limited, Lahore, Pakistan ("we", "us"). We decide how your information is used and are responsible for it. Questions about privacy go to support@inkbell.app.

3. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: your first and last name, email address and password. We store the password only in a scrambled (hashed) form that we cannot read. A profile picture if you add one.
  • Your material: photos of pages, PDF files of books or notes, subjects and topics you type, the text we read from them, the papers and answer keys you make, your edits, and the school details you add to papers (school name, logo, class, exam title and similar).
  • Support: the messages you send us through Help center in the app or by email.

Information created when you use InkBell

  • Plan and usage: your plan, when it started and renews, and how many papers and new books you have used this month.
  • Payments: for each payment, the amount, date, plan or pack, result and receipt number, the wallet type and the last 4 digits of the wallet number. For monthly renewals the payment company gives us a token that lets it charge the same wallet; we never receive or store your wallet PIN or full number.
  • Notifications: messages in your notification centre (for example "your book is ready"), and, if you allow phone notifications, a notification token for your device.
  • Safety checks: short-lived records of the automatic checks we run on uploads and typed topics, used to stop misuse.
  • Technical information: when you use InkBell, our servers record your IP address, browser or app details, the pages and actions requested and the time. We use this to keep InkBell secure and working, for example to limit repeated login attempts.

4. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • create and run your account, and verify your email address;
  • read your books and photos, make papers and answer keys, and keep them in your account;
  • run your plan: count your papers and books, take payments, renew or end plans, send receipts and handle refunds;
  • send you notices you need, such as verification codes, payment results, renewal reminders and book updates;
  • answer your questions and support requests;
  • keep InkBell safe, prevent fraud and misuse, and enforce our terms;
  • understand how InkBell is used and improve it, using counts and totals rather than the content of your papers; and
  • meet our legal duties, for example keeping payment records for tax.

We use your information because we need it to provide InkBell to you under our terms, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping InkBell secure and improving it, to meet legal duties, or with your permission (for example for phone notifications, which you can turn off at any time).

5. How AI is used with your material

  • To read pages and write questions, we send the relevant parts of your material (page images, text and your paper settings) to our AI provider. It processes them and returns the result to us.
  • Under our agreement with the AI provider, your material is not used to train its models. It may keep requests for a limited time to detect abuse, and then deletes them.
  • To keep costs down and results consistent, we may keep the text read from a page and reuse it if the exact same page is uploaded again. This never shows your upload, papers or identity to anyone else.
  • We do not use your material to build question banks for other users.

6. Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We share it only with companies that help us run InkBell, and only what each one needs:

  • Hosting and database: Amazon Web Services (our servers) and MongoDB Atlas (our database).
  • AI processing: OpenAI, to read material and write questions, and to run safety checks on typed topics.
  • Website and network: Cloudflare, which delivers our website and protects our servers.
  • Email: our email provider, to send verification codes, receipts and notices.
  • Phone notifications: Expo, Apple and Google, to deliver notifications to your device.
  • Payments: our payment partners (such as Easypaisa, JazzCash or a payment gateway) to take and refund payments, and app stores for purchases made through them.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety and rights of our users or the public, or as part of a sale or merger of our business (in which case this policy keeps protecting your information).

7. Where your information is kept

Our servers are in Singapore, and some of our service providers process information in other countries, including the United States. When your information is transferred abroad, we use providers that protect it with security measures and contractual safeguards.

8. How long we keep it

  • PDF files: deleted once a book has been read. PDFs that are still waiting or could not be read are deleted after 30 days.
  • Book text, papers and answer keys: kept in your account until you delete them or close your account.
  • Verification codes and safety-check records: deleted automatically after a short time.
  • Notifications: deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Server logs: kept for a short period (usually a few weeks) for security and fixing problems.
  • Payment records: kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require, even after an account is closed.
  • Closed accounts: your account, books and papers are deleted within 30 days of closing, except payment records and anything we must keep by law.

9. How we protect it

We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), scrambled passwords, access only for people and systems that need it, and private storage for your files. Changing your password signs out your other devices. Payments are handled by our payment partners, so we never hold your wallet PIN or card details.

No system is perfectly secure. Use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere, and tell us straight away at support@inkbell.app if you think your account has been misused. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

10. Your choices and rights

  • See and correct: view and edit your profile in the app, or ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Delete: remove books and papers in the app at any time, or ask us to close your account and delete your information.
  • Notifications: turn off phone notifications in your device settings. Emails about your account and payments are needed to run InkBell; if we ever send news or offers, every such email will have a way to stop them.
  • Object or complain: tell us if you disagree with how we use your information. You can also complain to the authority that handles data protection where you live.

To make a request, email support@inkbell.app from your account email. We reply within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm it is you.

11. Students and children

InkBell is for teachers and schools, not for children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Papers do not need students' personal details, so please do not upload student names, results or photos. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Cookies and storage on your device

The InkBell website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The dashboard and apps keep you signed in by saving a sign-in token on your device; signing out removes it. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and use privacy-friendly tools.

13. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is important, we will tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
